British Sign Language - for ALL
5-weeks £40, Wednesdays, 6-7:30pm FREE to fluent BSL signers
- Location 1
This is an informal group where those wanting to learn or practice sign language can get together for a chat and a laugh over a cuppa. Whether you're brand new to signing or fluent, everyone is welcome, especially people who are themselves deaf. The group will be lead by Dave, who has worked with the deaf community as a social worker. If you have not learned the language before, Dave will teach you the basics of greeting and introducing yourself in sign, and simple communication, such as might be used in for visitors to a shop or workplace and in a social setting. This group will be a useful starting point to communicating in sign, and will also broaden understanding of the issues faced by deaf people and how to be lead by the person on what they need (if anything!). Ideal as a taster for those wanting to start signing, as a refresher for those who’ve had some lessons but are out of practice, or for recent students wanting to learn more. If you are fluent in BSL and willing to help others practice we would love to see you! You will be welcome to attend for free, and will be plied with tea and bickies. Informal learning groups and beginners BSL courses run in five week blocks, and will be available for the foreseeable future on varying days and times. So if the current offering doesn't suit you, please get in touch to register your interest, and to let us know when you would be able to attend. We can also arrange tuition in BSL or deaf awareness workshops for organisations. Please contact us to discuss your requirements. HOW DO I BOOK?
